Olive Oil and Sea Salt on Everything
Photographer Sydney Jackson is one of those creatives I imagine a high school me would have followed on Instagram and (correctly) thought, “This is what being a cool, creative, fashion world girl in New York City looks like.” With a closet of mostly thrifted finds, she supplements her vintage with items from the brands she’s worked with. Here, she shares a few of her staples, her beauty philosophy, and her daily music diet. — Maraya
SIGHT
In the Mood For Love (2000): I am a sucker for an emotional love story, anything that is cinematically beautiful. In the Mood for Love directed by Wong Kar-wai is poetic and stunning.
SOUND
A Little Bit of Everything: I wake up to sweet soft Lana or Cigarettes After Sex and throughout the day move into Brent Faiyaz type beat. By night it's RapCaviar. I like to keep things dynamic and not be put into one mode, but I would say I listen to a little bit of everything!
TASTE
Mediterranean Food: I cannot get enough olive oil and salt lately I am putting it on everything. I would say I'm on a Mediterranean cuisine kick. Additionally, I forever and always will have a sweet tooth so every meal needs to end with dark chocolate.
SMELL
Maison Louis Marie Candles: I love fresh scents; for a while, I was into Jo Malone. I do love something feminine yet musky and sexy at night. Your home should smell nice too and everyone needs a Maison Louis Marie candle, they are divine.
FEEL
Walkable Heels: I love a little heel that is also comfortable and now that I'm in NYC, that I can walk in. I feel best in a little dress that fits me in all the right ways. Think Mirror Palais.
SYDNEY’S ESSENTIALS
I am a thrifting queen but additionally, I add pieces from brands I've worked with. I love to mix high and low. I will wear a thrifted outfit head to toe but the shoes happen to be Jimmy Choo. I learned recently I'm great at sourcing and finding a diamond in the rough. I would say my personal style is super casual but dinner and night outfits are definitely wild and bold.
Shop the Essentials: Tony Bianco Shae Mule, Citizens of Humanity Brynn Drawstring Trouser, Miaou Campbell Corset, Adidas SL 72 Shoes, Sami Miro Vintage Safety Pin Cardigan.
“I do not put foundation on my face and haven't in years, my skin has been glowing since.”
Sydney Jackson
VANITY
I am big on skincare but my approach is less is more. I keep my skin clean and hydrated and don't overuse products, and I only use clean products. Love, love Caudalie! For makeup, I also approach from less-is-more, but lately, I am obsessed with blush and lip stains. My everyday look is brow gel, mascara, blush, and lip liner with lip gloss. For going out, I'll build it up and also use a contour stick and bronzer all over.
Luxury/Splurge: 111skin Hyaluronic Acid Aqua Booster Serum
Drugstore Discovery: L'Oréal Paris Double Extend Beauty Tubes Lengthening Mascara and Basecoat
Indie Option: RMS Beauty Liplights
All Time Ole Reliable: Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek Cream Blush Stick
