Rae Sada’s Daily Uniform
As a veteran in both the fashion and music industries, rather than chase trends, Rae Sada has developed a tried and true personal uniform, inspired by the late ‘90s and early 2000s hip-hop culture. The emphasis is not on the clothes but on the jewelry she dons. Here, she shares her signature outfit as well as the artist she is currently obsessed with and her favorite Lower East Side bar. — Maraya
SIGHT
Ice Cold: An Exhibition of Hip-Hop Jewelry at The American Museum of Natural History: I'm a huge fan of hip-hop music and culture, so when I heard about the hip-hop jewelry exhibition at the American Museum of Natural History, I needed to go see it. I'm into jewelry myself, I wear chains and rings daily—it's just part of who I am. Checking out the iconic pieces worn by Biggie, ASAP Rocky, Erykah Badu, and so many other iconic artists was really fun for me.
SOUND
Raye: My entire life revolves around music. If I don't have my headphones on playing music or my speakers going at all times, you can assume something is wrong haha. Right now, I am in awe of the artist Raye from the UK. I had the privilege of seeing her perform live at an SNL taping and was completely blown away by her vocals and stage presence. She is a true artist and lyricist, a modern-day Amy Winehouse honestly.
TASTE
Jerk Chicken Egg Rolls at Las’ Lap: If you know me, you know I love hanging out at my friend Scott's bar in the Lower East Side, Las’ Lap. They serve the best Jamaican food, and the space just radiates good energy and amazing R&B music. The jerk chicken egg rolls are always a go-to.
SMELL
Curves by Sean Brown Lavender Incense: Curves by Sean Brown lavender incense are constantly burning in my home. It's almost immediate when people walk in my place, they ask me what I'm burning that smells so divine. Even if you aren't a big incense person, I guarantee you will fall in love with how these smell.
FEEL
Drunk Elephant Bronzing Drops: Well, I rarely wear makeup but I am currently obsessed with these bronzing drops by Drunk Elephant. Everyone who is close to me knows I usually spend little to no time putting any makeup on which is actually why I love this product. I mix a few drops in with my moisturizer and it gives such a nice sun-kissed glow to my skin instantly. Definitely became my one go-to in the morning routine.
CURRENTLY COVETING
People seem to be surprised that I don't really invest that heavily into clothes or designer pieces. I have a uniform I pretty much wear every day: A cut white Hanes men's tank top and baggy low-rise jeans. I lean heavily into the early 2000s and ’90s styling when I dress myself. It just feels the most natural and "me." I put all of my "flashy" emphasis on the rings and chains I wear. Outside of my daily uniform though, I like to get down in some sexy black patent leather thigh-high boots matched with long shorts. The juxtaposition of the baggy shorts with such feminine boots is just really sexy to me. Or a really great oversized jacket—I am always rocking a leather Avirex jacket in the winter. It makes any outfit. |
