Our Favorite Sleeping Beauties

I don’t know about you, but I am still thinking about Monday’s Met Gala looks. Some looks, like Elle Fanning’s frosted crystal Balmain have grown on me, while others (not naming names) have lost their initial shine. By now, you’ve seen the highlights: Zendaya proving, once more, that two is better than one, Kendall in an archival 1999 Givenchy dress that may or may not have ever been worn before, Kim’s custom Margiela cardigan, but we thought we would do a round-up of our favorite underrated looks that deserved more buzz. – Maraya

OUTFITS OF THE WEEK

The Coveteur Staff share the Met Gala looks we’re still thinking about.

Iris Law in Donatella Versace 2002 Archive

Iris looked like the most beautiful butterfly with this archival look—perfectly on theme, making sheer look sophisticated and with the most gorgeous glam to compliment. –Yasmin Coutinho, Casting Director

Isabelle Huppert in Balenciaga

This Balenciaga creation was a reinterpretation of a 1930s wedding dress made by Callot Sœurs, a fashion house founded by Isabelle Huppert’s great-great-grandmother and her three sisters. It adheres to the theme both in the petal shape of the train and in its beautiful story of resurrection. A sleeping beauty reawakened. Magnifique! —Maraya Fisher, Newsletter Editor

Mona Patel in Iris Van Herpen

Styled by Law Roach, this look was simply divine—feminine, elegant, and perfectly on theme. It exuded the extravagance the Met requires, whilst also being incredibly sophisticated.  —Yasmin Coutinho, Casting Director

Rebecca Hall in Danielle Frankel

This tribute to Ophelia by John Everett Millais is exquisite, especially with the addition of floral body paint mirroring the painted flowers on the dress. - Hilary George-Parkin, Managing Editor

Jessica Biel in Tamara Ralph

Embellished with striped coque feathers and crystals which took 320 hours to complete and Cartier accessories, Jessica Biel looks amazing. The color, the low V, the perfectly messy hair––Justin Timberlake is very lucky. —Lauren Malanga, Campaign Manager

Taylor Russell in Loewe

It was a stunning Met Gala debut as the actress graced the Met’s steps in a wood-patterned corset and a thigh-high slit. My jaw dropped. –Katie Mok, Editorial Assistant

Tyler Mitchell in Prada

I think photographer Tyler Mitchell looks so lovely in this Prada number. The sweet applique is the perfect contrast to that crispy shirting, ultra-sharp pleated pant, and patent shoe. —Camille Freestone, Senior Style Editor

Phoebe Dynevor in custom Victoria Beckham

Bridgerton star Phoebe is the first ever person to wear custom VB to the Met Gala and make fashion history in doing so. If that doesn’t scream “proud to be English,” I don’t know what does! —Yasmin Coutinho, Casting Director

Jeremy Strong in Loro Piana

I love how the simplicity of the suit compliments the intricate floral design on the lapel. Tom Lyon, Designer
