A Studio 54 Party in Mars
A massive blonde beehive, a cobalt lip, a pink satin Jean Paul Gaultier cone-cup bustier—if anyone understands the transformative power of makeup and clothing, it’s creator and stylist Millie Sykes. Channeling the supreme campy coolness of John Waters and Gregg Araki, Sykes describes her style as ‘Studio 54 party on Mars.’ Here she shares the wardrobe and beauty essentials she relies on while she’s riding that white horse in outer space. — Maraya
SIGHT
Call Me By Your Name by Andre Aciman: I've finally gotten around to reading Call Me By Your Name by Andre Aciman. I don't care if you've seen the film..the book is a must. So deeply relatable for anyone who has ever longed & yearned & lusted to the point of delusion.
SOUND
Sexy Unique Podcast: When I'm in silly mood I'm listening to SUP (Sexy Unique Podcast), a reality television recap pod that makes me belly laugh out loud to strangers on the street. When I'm in serious mood it's Esther Perel's Where Should We Begin. I'm very interested in the psychology of relationships and this pod continues to fascinate me years after my first listen.
TASTE
Pineapple Thai Fried Rice: Pineapple, tofu, roasted cashews, raisins, curry powder, garlic, soy sauce, chili sauce, any veg you're feeling, and plain rice. Pan-fry it all up in a bit of coconut oil. Garnish with cilantro and green onion. TRUST me.
SMELL
En Passant Editions De Parfums by Frederic Malle: I actually recently spent a day in MECCA spritzing and sniffing in an effort to find my new scent. I landed on En Passant Editions De Parfums by Frederic Malle.
FEEL
Em On Holiday Lifestyles Crew Neck Jumper: I've not removed my Em on Holiday 'Lifestyles Of The Bored And The Aimless' jumper for the better part of spring so far. It's the perfect blend of cozy and cool.
MILLIE’S ESSENTIALS
These are all the items I'm grabbing if the house is burning down, plus a few vintage pieces I can't link to. I love the freedom that clothing gives us to shape-shift, play different characters, and reinvent ourselves. This is my approach to my personal style. To summarize where I'm at right now? I like to wear things that look like I'm at a Studio 54 party on Mars.
Shop the Essentials: John Fluevog Mega Munster Baroque Platform Heel, Rabanne H&M Fuzzy Coat, Jean Paul Gaultier Conical Satin Bustier, Dolly Baby Electric Blue Ring, Celia Valverde Blue Sunglass.
“Stay away from TikTok for style inspiration. We're all starting to look like carbon copies of our algorithm. I recommend a return to vintage magazines, film, and the classic 'Google Images' for ideas.”

VANITY
My approach to skincare prior to age 25 was a warm washcloth to the face. When I realized I might want to start paying a little more attention (*spotted wrinkles) I invested in the Emma Lewisham SPF 30 cream and it's quickly become habitual. It's probably my only beauty routine. Other than that, I've been intermittently using the same chalky stick of MAC Ruby Woo since I was 17, and the brow gel red lip combination is a favorite.
Luxury/Splurge: Emma Lewisham Skin Shield Spf 30
Drugstore Discovery: E.L.F. Wow Brow Gel
Cult Classic: MAC Retro Matte Lipstick
All Time Ole Reliable: Lucas Papaw Ointment
