The Art of Outfit Repeating

Model and actor Mahogany Amour wants to be a professional outfit repeater—that is, she wants a curated wardrobe of reliable, special pieces she can refresh through styling. This thoughtful approach to dressing that places emphasis on quality over quantity is one we fully endorse. Here, she shares a few of these wardrobe staples as well as the beauty products she always repurchases (including the hair oil that has saved her hair from any heat damage and the lip balm she doesn’t leave the house without).  — Maraya

SIGHT

Lilo and Stitch (2002): A movie I’ve been into is Lilo and Stitch! A clip came up on TikTok and I knew I needed to watch it again. I’m such a sap, it had me boohoo crying!

SOUND

Cowboy Carter by Beyoncé: I’ve been into the new Cowboy Carter album by Beyoncé! There’s a song that's a cover of a Beatles song “Blackbird” which was written about black women, more specifically about the Little Rock Nine and women of Little Rock. I’m from that area and it felt so good to be seen on a scale like that.

TASTE

Caribbean Food: I have a page on Instagram called Mahogany’s Munchies where I share some of my favorite eats! But let me tell you, Caribbean food has me in a chokehold! I want to learn how to make Trini doubles!

SMELL

Return of the Central Figure Candle: I went to the Basquiat exhibit and got this candle, and it's one of the best-smelling fragrances I’ve ever smelled! It’s called “Return of the Central Figure”!

FEEL

A Gift From My Grandmother: My grandmother gave me a sweater last time I went home to Arkansas, and I wear it all the time! It makes me feel really happy and closer to home.

MAHOGANY’S ESSENTIALS

I typically like to thrift, especially at online stores but I do have some staples that go with everything! A big goal of mine this year is to downsize—the objective being to have such strong defining pieces that are timeless but can also be tweaked for a fresh take on the look. A professional outfit repeater, will you.

Shop the Essentials: Telfar Black Medium Shopping Bag, Jeffrey Campbell Bonds Boot, Free People Seamless V Neck Cami, Free People We The Free Jayde Flare Jeans, OOOPEL Chunky Hoop Earrings

VANITY

My approach to beauty is creating loyalty to products that I am continuously repurchasing or using consistently. Once I find a fave I stick with it! I blow dry my hair frequently yet I have not once had any heat damage due to the Olaplex bonding oil! The EOS Lotion makes me smell great all day and the Kayali perfume layers amazingly with everything, including the lotion! The Refy brow sculpt—the best brow gel I’ve ever used—and the Pro Kiss’r lip balm from Fenty are both “I can’t leave the house without these” staples!

Indie Option: Refy Brow Sculpt
