The Perfect Pair of Tailored Jeans

Throughout New York history, various downtown boutiques have become more than just places to shop—they have become arbiters of style and centers of creative community, outfitting the city’s cool kids and helping to define the aesthetics we associate with iconic fashion eras. Think Fiorucci in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s—where artist Maripol was the manager and Andy Warhol, Madonna, and a teenage Marc Jacobs were regulars—and Opening Ceremony’s Howard Street flagship store in the early 2000s. For today’s downtown cool girl, Café Forgot is that retailer. With a hand-selected curation of oftentimes handmade and one-of-a-kind pieces from emerging designers by the store’s co-founders, Lucy Weisner and Vita Haas, Café Forgot has become an important marker in the New York fashion landscape. From its conception, Weisner and Haas have prioritized their immediate artistic community, spotting new talent, carrying creations made by their friends, and dressing New York’s young creative class.

As one of the forces helping to shape the look of the downtown scene, we asked both Weisner and Haas to provide a few of their personal wardrobe essentials and current obsessions. Here, Weisner gives hers—which include the perfect lowrise trouser and Blistex chapstick—and we’ll send out Haas’s tomorrow.  — Maraya

A statement piece can also be quite practical. Why winter hats are an excellent opportunity to balance the aesthetic and practical.

The micro-minis and dressy briefs have come ubiquitous, but their reign may be coming to an end.

5 Things Lucy Weisner Is Currently Into Based on the 5 Senses

👁️ Sight 👀

Lydia Maria Child: A Radical American Life: I'm in the middle of a biography called Lydia Maria Child: A Radical American Life. It's about the life and work of an American abolitionist and author. Even though the book focuses on the early 19th century in America, so many of the questions it poses feel extremely relevant to now.

🎧 Sound 👂

Entitled Opinions: I love the podcast, Entitled Opinions. It's hosted by the literary scholar Robert Pogue Harrison. He interviews academics in a myriad of fields about their new books and research projects. He's a very adept interviewer and I love the guests he selects; the conversations never fail to fascinate me.

👅 Taste 😋

Legumes: I love to cook. My favorite foods to prepare are vegetables and various types of dried or fresh beans. I also love making salads. I've never been much of a baker but I've been exploring that a bit more recently.  I’ve been baking savory pies, olive oil cake, and tahini cookies.

👃 Smell 😶‍🌫️

Déodorant by Aēsop: Aēsop's deodorant, which I use as both deodorant and perfume. It’s $35 for the spray bottle which is quite expensive so it’s nice that it has a dual function. Plus friends often compliment me on how I smell.

🤌 Feel 🤏

all is a gentle spring Stretch Trouser in Black: I've been into a black flare-leg trouser. I love these all is a gentle spring ones we have at Café Forgot and have been wearing them a lot this winter and layering them with skirts and dresses. They are really versatile and can be casual or dressy.

LUCY’S WARDROBE ESSENTIALS

Olga Basha Ron Jean: First piece is Olga Basha jeans. We sell them at CF but they are really some of the best tailored jeans I've ever worn. They come in raw and washed denim and are unisex. The cut is incredible and they are super flattering.

Araks Isabella Panty: The second item is Araks Isabella underwear. I have a few colors and they are truly the best pair of underwear I've ever worn.

Pretties Og Baby Tee: I wear a lot of T-shirts and jeans. I love second-hand T-shirts because I like the feel of a really soft cotton tee. Other than that, my favorite t-shirt is the Pretties OG Baby Tee. The cut is amazing and the design is simple with a little feminine edge. My favorite colors are the white and NYC black (we sell them at CF too).

Prada Sport Vintage 2000's Button-Up Top: I really love a nice button-down shirt. I recently purchased this 2000s Prada one on The Real Real and have been wearing it non-stop. I love the fit, the 3/4 sleeves, and the layered hem and cuffs.

Thistles The Al Black & Brown Sunglasses: Thistle's sunglasses. I love the Al in black with a brown lens. These are the best sunglasses, I feel like they look good on everyone who's ever tried them on.

VANITY

Lucy Weisner’s Beauty Go-To’s

Luxury/Splurge: Joanna Vargas Daily Hydrating Cream: My favorite face moisturizer is this Joanna Vargas one. It has great ingredients and is very hydrating for dry skin. It’s definitely on the expensive side as far as moisturizers go.

Drugstore Discovery: Ultra Aesthetics MSM Moisture Crème: I've recently discovered the ultra aesthetics moisturizing cream. It's a fraction of the price of the Joanna Vargas one and it really does the trick. It also works great as a body moisturizer too.

Cult Classic: Blistex Lip Medex Analgesic Lip Protectant: I adore Blistex chapstick. It's one of the few chapsticks that really seems to help my lips retain moisture in the winter and doesn't dry them out.

Indie Option: Noto Multi-Bene Stick Lips + Cheeks: Noto Botanics has great beauty and makeup products. In the summer I like to use their exfoliant, but all year around I love their tinted sticks for lips, cheeks, eyes, etc.

All Time Ole Reliable: Aēsop Resolute Hydrating Body Balm: Aēsop hand and body moisturizer is a constant for me. Something I'm always carrying around in my bag.
