Our Managing Editor’s Favorite T-Shirt Splurge
Coveteur’s new Managing Editor Hilary George-Parkin is an excellent resource for a practical recommendation—need a stylish heel that gives you height but won’t leave you with blisters and aching feet? She’s got you. Sunglasses so light you will barely notice them on your face? She knows a pair. A downtown eatery that you AND your recently-vegan friend can both enjoy? No problem. I’ve already texted my roommate group chat about watching the documentary she recommends below. Get your notes app ready because today she spills some knowledge! — Maraya

👁️ Sight 👀
Frida on Amazon Prime: I previewed the gorgeous new Frida Kahlo documentary at Hot Docs in Toronto recently—it’s streaming on Prime now and absolutely worth a watch. The narration is almost entirely drawn from the artist’s own words, so at times, it feels like you’re reading her diary (or having it read to you, rather), and it’s a good reminder of how funny and sexy and acerbic Kahlo was behind the very famous face. Also, my friends are reprising their immersive performance Private Party in Brooklyn this week, and if the last run at the Public Theater was any indication, it’s going to be an exceptionally fun time. (Come with! There’ll be cake and mezcal.)
🎧 Sound 👂
"Run Your Mouth” by The Marías: I can't wait for The Marías second album to come out in May; I've had the first single, "Run Your Mouth," on heavy rotation in between Chappell Roan and Ethel Cain.
👅 Taste 😋
Soda Club in the East Village: I'm not vegan, but I will be taking all my friends (vegan and otherwise) to Soda Club ASAP. It's a tiny spot in the East Village with killer pasta and orange wine.
👃 Smell 😶🌫️
D.S. & Durga's Debaser: Now that it's light out past 7 p.m. (thank god!), I'm phasing out my winter fragrances and going for something springier. D.S. & Durga's Debaser is one of my favorites—a little fig, a little floral, and subtle enough for every day.
🤌 Feel 🤏
Vintage Men’s Corduroys: Vintage men's corduroys are the only thing I want to put on in the morning if it's cold out. They don't look like sweatpants, but they might as well be.
HILARY GEORGE-PARKIN’S WARDROBE ESSENTIALS
Issey Miyake 2020 Midi Length Dress: Nothing more aspirational than being in your Issey era, IMO. I bought a Pleats Please dress from The RealReal last year and I'm so glad I made the investment. I packed it for a destination wedding in Spain and it took up almost no suitcase space AND I didn't have to fight for the steamer at the villa. I'll also wear it to work or dinner with a turtleneck and boots.
Frances de Lourdes Hardy Tee: I know, I know! But listen: I got my hands on a Frances de Lourdes T-shirt at the brand's launch event years ago, and I've been tragically ruined for all others since. (For sheerness and drape, though, I have found some 100% linen tees that check similar boxes.)
L’Intervalle Granby Navy Patent Heels: I own these in black and am highly tempted to get the blue. Very comfy and has the perfect heel height.
Acne Studios Silver Lamb Leather Biker Jacket: Silver is a neutral, trust.
Krewe Troy Sunglasses: Heavy acetate frames usually bug me within, like, an hour. These don't, though! If they aren't in my bag, they're probably on my face.
VANITY
Hilary George-Parkin’s Beauty Go-To’s
Luxury/Splurge: Tom Ford Black Orchid Eau De Parfum Fragrance: I went through a comical number of samples of this before I caved and bought the real thing. Guaranteed to make you feel hot.
Drugstore Discovery: Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick: My former editor (Verena von Pfetten of Gossamer) tipped me off to this many years ago and it's still the longest-lasting lipstick I own. It's super-pigmented, so for more of a stain effect, I'll dab it on with my finger.
Cult Classic: Kerasilk Volumizing Styling Foam: An ideal mousse for bouncy, non-crunchy curls. Smells fantastic and works in dry hair as well as wet.
Indie Option: Amass Four Thieves Soap: Ok, it's come to my attention that I don't use any products from brands that haven't already been acquired by mega-corporations. While I remedy that, please enjoy this fancy soap I love.
All-Time Ole Reliable: Erborian BB Cream SPF 20: I've tried a million BB creams, but this is the one I always come back to. It's lightweight but not totally sheer, and a little goes a long way.
