Gia Kuan Wants to Feel Comfortable, Sharp, and Fab

As New York Fashion Week approaches, we are checking in with one of its principal architects—the founder of the PR firm behind the capital C Coolest shows and parties: Gia Kuan. She’s worked with Telfar, Luar, and Heaven by Marc Jacobs to name a few. If there’s a near-riot of incredibly hot young Bushwick-types happening outside an event, chances are Gia Kuan Consulting is responsible for the invite list. Here, Kuan shares her wardrobe essentials (trad office wear staples with a Gia twist), the face oil that’s saving her skin this season, and the dating reality TV she’s invested in.  — Maraya

LATELY ON COVETEUR

Wealth inequality is ballooning, so where is the substantive commentary?

5 Things Gia Kuan Is Currently Into Based on the 5 Senses

👁️ Sight 👀

Singles Inferno: I'm a sucker for Singles Inferno, the Korean singles dating reality TV series. The third season was so riveting, and I was fully invested in the characters. Also, like everyone else, I listened to the Britney Spears autobiography in audiobook form narrated by Michelle Williams over the holidays. On a less guilty-pleasure, cultural slant—I was rather inspired by the debut performance of (LA)Horde, a French choreography dance collective lately. We worked on their debut in New York in the fall, and I'm still moved by the performances that I saw, pushing the boundaries and a new era of dance.

🎧 Sound 👂

My First Time Podcast: Tommy Dorfman's My First Time Podcast I've been enjoying listening to—a really fresh take on topics and intimate conversations with people like Julia Fox, Kimberly Drew, Michael Love Michae, etc.

👅 Taste 😋

Chinese slow-cooked bone broth stew: I've been really into a classic Chinese slow-cooked bone broth stew recently. I was sick over the holidays and this really healed me––and it's nourishing and healthy. I add tonnes of ginger, oxtail or beef bone, radish, and cabbage for detoxing the body. A lot of white pepper. By itself or over rice.

👃 Smell 😶‍🌫️

Aēsop’s Parfum Series: I'm a sucker for all the Aēsop room sprays, oils, and most recently, their more expanded parfum series—I have a bunch; I don't even know where to begin as my favorite. I mix and layer it with a Byredo Gypsy Water, which makes a great base, and the D.S. & Durga I Don't Know What as well.

🤌 Feel 🤏

Augustinus Bader Face Oil: Augustinus Bader's Face Oil with their T8 formula has been a savior to my dry chapped skin over the winter months. I received it as a holiday gift and it just feels so luxurious. And then every week I try to slug a few times with a very basic pharmaceutical CeraVe healing ointment to retain some moisture.

GIA’S WARDROBE ESSENTIALS

All of these are favorites from each of the designers I work with, so there's obvious favoritism. But truthfully, I think each of these items is a reworked version of a classic work girl staple (jeans, leather jacket, puffer, work shirt, going out meeting bag) but the 'not basic' version a.k.a. very me. They’re also easy for me to not only wear to work every day but also when I go to the park to walk my dog. There's truly no difference between my at-work and off-work fashion vibe. I just want to feel comfortable but sharp and fab.
