5 Things Anajah Hamilton Is Currently Into Based on the 5 Senses
👁️ Sight 👀
Fallen Angels (1995): A movie I've been into lately is Wong Kar-wai's Fallen Angels (1995). Aside from being beautifully shot, it has an underlying tone of sadness—navigating life, accepting loneliness, and how complicated connection with others can be. If I'm ever up late at night, I turn it on. I find it comforting, and the soundtrack is really good.
🎧 Sound 👂
Gilberto with Turrentine (Remastered) by Astrud Gilberto (1971): An album I've been enjoying lately is Gilberto with Turrentine (Remastered) by Astrud Gilberto (1971). Whenever life starts to get really hectic, I listen to a lot of Jazz or Bossa Nova. Astrud Gilberto and some of her longtime collaborators like João Gilberto and Stan Getz have always been a favorite of mine. This album slows down time and reminds me I have control over my life, in a strange way. I've also been listening to a lot of Janet Jackson and as a singer/songwriter myself, she's a major inspiration for me and really gets the creative gears going in my mind.
👅 Taste 😋
Slow Loris: I am obsessed with this Japanese/Korean fusion restaurant by Prospect Park called Slow Loris. I love their food, especially the little J-Bao sandwiches, so crispy and soft and yummy and delicious. Definitely check them out!
👃 Smell 😶🌫️
Freshly Cleaned Bed Sheets: I love the smell of freshly cleaned bed sheets. It's so inviting and makes my room feel complete. I'm allergic to smells so I'm big on every single thing in my life smelling fresh, natural, clean, and simple.
🤌 Feel 🤏
Makeup Forever Lip Liner: I recently got new lipliners from Makeup Forever and WOW. My first time trying it was onset at a photoshoot, and I was blown away at the long-lasting wear. Ever since, I've been hooked and my lips look amazing.
ANAJAH’S WARDROBE ESSENTIALS
I have a lot of pride in how I dress and decorate my body, and I get a lot of style inspiration from my grandmother. I mainly shop from small or emerging designers and brands, and second-hand or vintage.
Tank Air Studio Short Sleeve Tee: Tank Air Studio is literally like bread and butter to me. Their clothes feel like a second skin, so comfortable and flattering to my body shape.
Vanna Youngstein Superstar Tank Top: Vanna Youngstein makes the cutest and most stylish pieces. Like, I always feel so darling wearing her clothes, and she's just so talented and tapped into what the girls want.
YeahIt’sJewelry Custom Nameplate Necklace: YeahItsJewelry is this beautiful digital jewelry store run by the sweetest woman, Chloe, she sources the vintage items on the site and creates the custom pieces as well. I sport this beautifully created custom nameplate necklace, my favorite in my jewelry collection.
Louis Vuitton Monogram Vernis Bedford Handbag Enamel Leather Beige Yellow: I am obsessed with a cute 2000s bag, and one I wear constantly is my Louis Vuitton Monogram Bedford Bag in yellow. It took me forever to find one in perfect condition and at an honorable price, but I scored big time! She's my baby.
Sandy Liang Mary Jane Pointe In Ballet Satin: Now, I am a petite girl and I've always hated flats, especially as a teen wearing uniforms every day to school. But I couldn't help but get the Sandy Liang ballet flat. Sandy can do no wrong, and when they started releasing shoes, I knew I had to have a pair... or a few (-;.
VANITY
Anajah Hamilton’s Beauty Go-To’s
Luxury/Splurge: Chanel La Mousse: I have always loved skincare and beauty, that is something I've inherited from my Mother. I love gentle skincare and make-up products like the Chanel facewash; it smells so good, and after a long day of running around the city, it makes my skin feel squeaky clean.
Drugstore Discovery: Q-tips Cotton Swabs: When I do my makeup, a Q-tip goes such a long way; literally the best multi-purpose tool.
Cult Classic: Glossier You: The Glossier perfume smells great on its own, as its scent is unique on every customer, but I find it best layered with other light perfumes.
Indie Option: Espressoh BOhlmy: I love the Italian makeup brand Espressoh; everything smells like coffee and ugh, I just am obsessed with how smooth the lipgloss is.
All Time Ole Reliable: Edge Booster Strong Hold Water-Based Pomade: Now as a girl with thick hair, I need a good, strong, and reliable edge-control and girl, The Edge Booster edge control keeps my baby hairs styled even when I sweat at the gym. AMAZING product.
HOT TAKE
“Unfortunately, I am a very critical person. I have so many unpopular opinions, but I'll just say this: Trends are not to be followed, they are to aid you in your own personal growth as an individual.” – Anajah Hamilton
